Phonics teaches children to read and write by identifying the specific sounds each letter in the alphabet makes. At Q-dees, our Phonics Programme™ breaks away from the conventional route of teaching phonics.
Instead of teaching the letter sounds alphabetically, we teach strategic key letters that are mostly used in word formation, thus promoting word recognition and hence, confidence in mastering the language. Through exclusive interactive animation, stories, dance, games and songs, the phonics letters are dramatized through actions to ensure total engagement and reinforcement of learning while having fun!
Q-dees English syllabus is also taught thematically as this allows our children to learn and understand subject matter beyond their age. The Enhance Foundation English Programme™ is designed to work hand-in-hand with the Thematic Programme™ in enhancing our children’s mastery of the language. By learning the language in themes, their vocabulary is widened and correct contextual usage of the language is encouraged.
Proverbs, idioms and sayings are also introduced into their lessons to enhance their language proficiency and imbue morale values. Encompassing the essential skills that are, reading, writing, listening and speaking, the thematic approach gives our children the opportunity and space to express themselves in the language.
Building a Reading Culture
Over the years, Q-dees has seen many of our children come to love reading simply because of a powerful combination of two things: an effective Phonics programme and an exciting set of readers. Offered exclusively to Q-dees students, the e-Reader™ boasts of carefully graded readers with controlled vocabulary that enable our children to read fluently and enthusiastically.
One of the habits we encourage our children to build is a reading culture at home. Which is why, in addition to the printed version, they have the privilege of connecting online from the comfort of their homes, and gaining direct access to our rich and exciting e-Reader library. This programme also provides an avenue for parents to spend good quality time with their children, by reading and sharing stories together.
Similar to how English is taught, the Bahasa Malaysia Programme uses themes that include commonly used simpulanbahasa (idioms) and peribahasa (proverbs). The language is also taught using the suku kata (syllable) approach which, when mastered, will enable our children to read anything in the Malay language.
Additionally, the content is presented to them in the form of catchy songs, pantun-pantun (poems) and engaging animation throughout to enhance subject interest, recall and thus, proficiency. More than simply teaching a language, this programme instils within our children the love for our national language.

The Mandarin Programme and the Enhance Foundation Mandarin Programme work synergistically to provide our children with a well-rounded Mandarin syllabus. Taught thematically as well, the Mandarin syllabus focuses on helping our children recognise Mandarin characters through fun poems, catchy songs, intriguing stories and cool animation.
Their memory is then reinforced through writing and practice with the print materials, while rich language expressions and proverbs are weaved into the stories and lessons to promote understanding and creative application of the language.
